The motive for the killing of the scientist, Massoud Ali Mohammadi, remains unclear. Colleagues said that he was not involved in the country’s nuclear program, but according to a report from Iran’s state-supported Press TV, a spokesman for Iran’s Foreign Ministry accused foreign countries concerned that Iran may intend to develop nuclear weapons of being behind the murder. Iranian state television called Mr. Ali Mohammadi a “staunch supporter of the Islamic Revolution,” and The Los Angeles Times reported that the scientist was described in other Iranian media outlets as a former member of the Revolutionary Guards. One of Mr. Ali Mohammadi’s students said that he had severed his ties to the Revolutionary Guards years ago. The student added:

Since two months ago, he has been venting his frustration with almost everybody in the system. [...] He was openly criticizing high-ranking officials in classes.

A youg woman, Elahe, 24 years old, was allegedly
assassinated at Passdaaraans' Eshrat-Abaad concentration camp on Friday
8 January 2010

The horrible story of Arghavan and Zahed Shokrabi

In this video (in Persian with English subtitles) Bahram Moshiri is telling the story of Zahed Shokrabi (20) and his sister Arghavan(18), who were both detained in July 2009 in Esfahan. The prison guards named Moslem and Gheybi, beat heavily Zahed and told to his sister to get naked, if she does not want them to kill her brother. She did it and one of them begun to rape her. Her brother came to his senses and begun shouting but the prison guards killed him in front of his sister. After these events she is still totally out of her mind, she went completely crazy.

Ashoora victims

After the reports, during the Ashoora protests several people have been killed. The most known is Seyed Ali Habibi Mousavi (42), son of the presidential candidate Mir Hossein Mousavi. The names of the others are Mehdi Farhadinia (somewhere as Farhadi-Rad, 34), Mohammad Ali Rasekhinia (40), Amir Arshadi (30), Jahanbakht Pazouki, 50, and Shahram Faraji, also known as Farajzade Tarani, the young man overrun by a police car from the well known video. There is also an unidentified female run over by an other car, documented by at least two videos (older article).

An other should be Mostafa Karim Beigi, 26 years old, on the photo. He got a bulled in the head, it is possible that he is on this video.
Here is the interview with his mother translated to English (Persian original under the English version).

Sajjad Sabzalipour

Sajjad (Kaveh) Sabzalipour -

From a private source I received a news about the martyrdom of Sajjad Sabzalipour (nicknamed Kaveh), a young man of 24, who was killed by the basiji on the Enghelab square. Allegedly he has been hit in his eye by a bullet shot from a roof by a sniper. This news has been sent to me on the 8th of January 2010. He should be buried in the countryside of Rasht. This young man was allegedly an actor in TV series, even if I do not know him. This photo should be from the series Panjomin khorshid. If anybody knows more, please post or send it to me. The source is stating that it is not the same person named as Kaveh Alipour.
Here there is a mention of his name together with the name of an other martyr, Meisam Ebadi and there are more mentions in Persian.

Shahram vs. Shahrokh or others

Dear readers, I deeply apologise for my absence. I was very busy these days with my personal and work affairs and I did not have the time to catch up with the new events.
As you probably noticed, there was a big dispute over the videos circulating around the atrocities committed by the Iranian police during the Ashoora demonstrations.
A video of a man three times overrun by a car has been shown and the victim has been identified with at least two people, Shahram Farajzade Tarani and Shahrokh Rahmani.
Ultimately it has been proven that the victim is Shahram Tarani, for example by this photo. On the photo he is wearing the same shirt as at the moment of his martyrdom.

There have been considerable errors about the identification of the young martyr on the video, for example the VOA report identified him as Shahrokh Rahmani. It is possible that other people died during that day, but from the photos and videos it is clear that the man in that concrete video shown is Shahram Farajzade Tarani.

Fasih Yasamani - executed

Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA): On the morning of Wednesday, January 6th at 4:00am, Fasih Yasamani, a political prisoner, was hanged in Khoy Prison.

According to a report from the Committee of Human Rights Activists in Kurdistan, the execution officials unexpectedly and without following the legal procedure executed this Kurdish citizen who was a native of the village Khoy (located in north-western Iran). He was in prison since 2007. The officials refuse to hand over the body to his family.

Mr. Yasamani was accused of belonging to an opposition party (Pajvak, an armed Kurdish group). However, there was no evidence to support the accusations, except for Mr. Yasamani’s own confessions which, according to him, was said under torture.

Fasih was 28 at the time of his execution. After Ehsan Fatahian [who was executed on Nov 11th], Fasih is the second political prisoner to be executed in the Kurdish region in recent months.

At the moment, there are 17 other political prisoners on death row in Kurdistan:

Ms. Zeynab Jalalian, Habibollah Latifi, Shirkoo Moarefi, Farhad Vakili, Farzad Kamangar, Ali Heydarian, Hossein Khezri, Rashid Akhondaki, Mohammad Amin Agooshi, Ahmad Pouladkhani, Seeyed Sami Hosseini, Seyyed Jamal Mohammadi, Rostam Arkia, Mostafa Salimi, Anvar Rostami, Hasan Talei, and Iraj Mohammadi

Graphic video of a woman overrun by a car - Shabnam Sohrabi

This graphic video is showing a women killed by a car on the day of Ashoora, 27th of December 2009. Her identity is so far unknown. Many of other similar videos are on youtube about people killed on that day.

Update : It is now known that her name was SHABNAM SOHRABI, and she was 34. She left behind a little daughter, at the time of the death of her mother she was six.

Abbas (Shahram) Farajzadeh Tarani

by NIAC, 07-Jan-2010

Cross-posted from niacINsight.com.

To the world, he is the man that was brutally run over a police car during Ashura’s protests, but to his family, he is Shahram.

{UPDATE: He was run over 3 times which proves the intentional killing}

Abbas (Shahram) Farajzadeh Tarani was thirty-years old when a police car backed into him and then ran over him again, killing him on Dec. 27. His death was captured by fellow protesters by this thirty second youtube video. He worked in a paint factory and leaves behind his wife and five year-old daughter. Like many of those martyred during the post-election unrest, the Iranian government has done its best to stop the impact of his death.

As was told to us by a third-party source, after he was hit, fellow protesters and one relative took his body to the hospital. But, when his family arrived at the hospital, his body was missing. Shortly thereafter, government officials called his brother to tell him that Shahram’s body was being buried in Behesht Zahra, the main cemetery in Tehran.

When the brother arrived, he was faced with four intelligence officers and they warned him not to cause a scene. His family was told they were not allowed to hang up the traditional black cloths on his home or his office to notify friends of his death. The government had taken the liberty of washing his body and wrapping it in a white cloth, both of which are important rite in Iranian mourning process normally overseen by close friends and relatives, and then, in proper tradition, wrapped him in a white cloth. They were allowed to see the body for a moment and noticed that he was covered in stitches.

After burying the body, families normally hold a ceremony at a mosque on the third day of the person’s death. But for the Farajzadeh Taranis, each mosque they approached refused them. Apparently the government had threatened the mosques and forbade them from hosting the ceremony.

Like many families who have lost their relatives to the post-election upheaval, Shahram’s family was forced to quietly mourn for him in their home, in fact, his brother had to sign an agreement saying he would not have a public ceremony.

As if the Iranian intelligence community does monitor its citizens’ behavior enough, four intelligent officers oversaw the Shahram’s ceremony at his family’s home. Men filled one room and women the other, all the while, Shahram’s father kept crying out, “Shahram, your blood was unjustly shed!”

Two days ago, on Monday, a week after his death, the Farajzadeh Tarani’s were allowed to mourn the seventh day since Shahram’s death at a mosque. Normally families print out flyers and paste them outside the mosque or near their work places, but once again, they were denied this basic custom. Instead they printed flyers themselves and handed them out to friends who seemed to be unaware of their son’s death. Traditionally, on the top of these flyers is a line of poetry, and his reads, “From every death, rises some sadness, but there are differences between death and death.”

“I feel he died in vain,” expressed one of Shahram’s relatives to our third-party source. So the responsibility once again falls to outside media and Iranian citizen journalism to ensure the world remembers Shahram’s fight for freedom.

Some names of new victims. Still controversial.

The opposition has released a provisional list of protesters killed in today's demonstrations in Tehran. This is only a preliminary list and only concerns the day of Ashura, December 27, in the capital. A woman was allegedly shot and killed in Sirjan during protests yesterday, but she is not among these victims. According to Jonbesheh Raheh Sabz, they are:

- Mehdi Farhadinia, 34, Mehdi Farhadirad according to the Islamic Republic Police News Service
- Mohammad Ali Rasekhinia, 40
- Amir Arshadi, 30
- Shahram Faraji, 30
- Seyed Ali Habibi Mousavi (nephew of opposition leader Mir Hossein Mousavi), 42
- Jahanbakht Bazooki, 50
- According to the Islamic Republic Police News Service, an unidentified woman, 43, and man, 31 were also killed. It is unclear how the police could be so precise on their ages and not have their names.

Shahrokh Rahmani

THERE IS A DISPUTE ABOUT THE REAL STORY OF THE MARTYRDOM OF SHAHROKH RAHMANI. AS FAR AS WE KNOW THERE ARE VIDEOS CIRCULATING ON THE INTERNET WHICH SHOW THE EVENT OF A YOUNG MAN RUN OVER MORE TIMES BY A CAR. BUT THERE ARE CONTRADICTION ON HIS IDENTIFICATION. THE SAME PERSON HAS BEEN IDENTIFIED WITH MORE NAMES. THE PERSON ON THE VIDEO IS WITH THE HIGHEST PROBABILITY SHAHRAM FARAJZADE, BECAUSE HE HAS BEEN RECOGNIZED BY HIS RELATIVES AND THE OTHER VIDEOS SHOW EVIDENT SIGNS OF SOME KIND OF MANIPULATION. WE DO NOT EXCLUDE THAT SHAHROKH ALSO DIED ON THAT DAY BUT IT NEEDS FURTHER INVESTIGATION. I WILL BE BACK AS SOON AS POSSIBLE (I AM VERY BUSY THESE DAYS)

Green Way Movement (Jaras): During Ashoura, on Valiasr intersection, martyr Shahrokh Rahmani was run over by an anti-riot police vehicle.
The day before, Shahrokh Rahmani and Saeed Ali Mousavi were both buried in Behesht Zahra cemetery.
According to the reports Jaras has received, the family of Shahrokh Rahmani were threatened by anti-riot police to not give any interviews.
Security forces agreed to give Shahrokh’s body to his family under the condition that they will not give any interviews and claim the cause of death to be a car accident.

Amir Arshad Tajmir

This young man should be one of the victims, Amir Arshad Tajmir, son of Shahin Mahinfar, who is a known radio speaker in Iran. The sources are a little bit controversial about his full name and age as well, giving it 30 or 25. The original article:

Norooz news:

Hamed Makari Anvar (?)

Hamed Makari Anvar is said to be a victim of the unrest, but there is no other source except some commentaries like this one found here:
The person who is writing is not sure about this case and it seems nobody has more information, there are only tweets with this name and photo.
Other sources speak about a drug addict bearing the same name.... it is necessary to find out anything more. There is just written he was from Hamadan. It is quite a doubtful case. Anybody heard anything?

Hamed Rouhinejad

Hamed Rouhinejad is a young prisoner who has multiple sclerosis. He was arrested on bogus charges by agents from the Intelligence Ministry, 40 days before the election. Following the post-election mass protests, because of false promises and threats, Rouhinejad ended up playing a role in the show trials as a protester, a role that resulted in a death sentence for him.

Hamed wrote 2 letters to the World to declare his innocence. Excerpt:

“Poverty and the hardships we were facing as a working class family and the huge expenses of my treatment as an MS patient forced me to leave the country. I did not want to impose on my family more than what they were already facing. I left Iran in hopes of going to the U.S. or a European country, but I unfortunately ended up in Iraq. Human traffickers took all my money. I was detained in Arbil for 4 months. After my release I started working in a restaurant day and night to make some money, but my deteriorating MS and the loneliness of exile forced me to return to Iran. My return was completely legal and was in coordination with the Intelligence Ministry. Upon my return I went to the “Intelligence” officials and told them everything about my trip. After listening to me they said, “you have not committed any crime and can go back to university.” Unfortunately, 10 months later, on May 4th, 2009, I was arrested and detained until I could be used as a sacrifice in the election trials. Today, as a political prisoner, I declare that I have never belonged to any political party or group. I have never had anything to do with the elections. I deny having ever had any ties to the API (Anjoman Padeshi Iran). I deny all the charges that have been brought up against me.”

The name of a next victim of the post-election riots has been revealed.

Mahmoud Raisi Najafi, another citizen who was beaten down at Azadi Sqr after post election incidents lost his life. It is vital to know that his name has not been announced amongst the dead people.

According to Saham News, widow of Najafi talked about how she lost her husband:” He was a laborer (allegedly cabinet installer or carpenter). He would leave the house everyday at 6am and would return home early evening. On Khordad 25th (June 15th) he did not return home until 10:30, we were all concerned about him. Around 10:30 someone rang the door bell. Since my husband had a key, I though a stranger is at the door. I asked who is it, and I heard my husband’s voice. He stated because of some problems happened to him, he is not able to open the door.

I went downstairs and opened the door. He was not in a good situation, he was injured and bleeding. I helped him to get in the house. He told me: after work today, I was coming back home from Azadi when I saw people running and some were being chased down. I saw armed forces with batons chasing and beating people. I was going my way when they start beating me down with baton. I told them many times, I’m just returning back from work, I have no idea what’s going on, but they did not listen to me. I went unconscious and when I opened my eyes next time, I found my self in a car.

I tried to find out about my situation when I noticed there are other people with my situation around me which I think they were all dead or were unconscious and I was thrown over their bodies. I start hitting the doors and made some noise when they noticed I was a live. They stopped the car and opened the door. I begged them and told them I have a family and I was returning back from work and I don’t know what has happened to me. It seemed like one of them felt bad and pulled me out of the car and they left. I wasn’t able to stand on my own feet. By making noise and moving my hands I got the attention of some people and asked for help. After a while few people came to me and I asked them where I was. I was told, this place is Hakimie. I told them about my situation and asked for their help to get me a car and take me to my house.

Khadije Haidari added: Mr. Najafi was alive for another 13 days. His body was severely injured, his feet were swollen, and his hands were paralyzed. His stomach was also swollen. We were scared to take him to the hospital; we did not want to get in trouble. During this time, his situation worsened by day. On Tir 6th (June 27th) my father in-law came and we decided to take him to the hospital of Tarafe. We were told sicne they are extremely busy and don’t have any bed available, take him home and bring him back tomorrow. He slept that night, but did not wake up the next morning when we wanted to take him back to the hospital”. Source.

44 nameless bodies buried in Beheshte Zahra cemetery

In the recent days 44 nameless dead were buried in the Beheshte Zahra cemetery south of Tehran, in the section 203 of the cemetery. Source: LA Times, August 23

Video with a text in english here, telling the bodies were completely frozen, pieces of ice.

An Iranian lawmaker vowed Saturday to examine allegations that dozens of unidentified people killed in the recent post-election unrest were secretly buried last month in the country's largest cemetery.

The reformist website Norooznews.org on Friday cited an unnamed employee of the capital's Behesht Zahra cemetery as saying that 44 unidentified corpses were buried July 12 and 15 amid heavy security.

Majid Nasirpour, a reformist lawmaker who serves on the parliament's Social Affairs Committee, filed a request for an inquiry, reported the website Parlemannews.ir.

"This news story needs to be verified," he told the website Saturday. "I will ask the committee to investigate the allegations."

The number of those killed during the weeks of violence that followed the disputed June 12 presidential election is a source of controversy: Iranian officials say that as few as 20 died, nine of whom were pro-government militiamen. Iranian opposition figures say that at least 69 have been killed, and Western officials in Tehran estimate the number of dead nationwide to be in the hundreds.

Norooznews, the online incarnation of a respected newspaper shut down by authorities in 2002, said it had obtained the registration numbers of the burial permits to back up its report. The website previously reported that bodies were piled up at a mortuary in southwest Tehran.

Iranian authorities have made a concerted effort to downplay the numbers and accounts of those killed during the unrest, pressuring families not to hang mourning banners on their homes and ordering mosques not to allow memorial services.

Nonetheless, mourners Thursday night marked the 40th-day burial anniversary of Sohrab Arabi, a 19-year-old who was apparently shot in the chest during a June 15 demonstration and whose whereabouts was unknown for almost a month.

They took to the streets and chanted political slogans in the expansive Tehran apartment complex where his family lives, videos posted to the Internet showed.

Amir Mirza

This story has been sent to me from a private source.
This young man is an other victim of torture and horrible treatment of people during and after the post-election riots. On one of the last days of June he was badly wounded by Basijis and forcibly arrested near one of the main squares in Tehran, and then sent to prison, accused of several crimes including rioting, spying and plotting to overthrow the regime during the massive street demonstrations and acting as an agent against national security. Supposedly he was identified from a newspaper photograph.

After being tortured and beaten for three days, he was finally released on a high bail paid by his family.

Unfortunately he died some days later (due to complications of internal lung bleeding and meningitis). Even though he was denied the medical treatment he was detained again and tied up on the floor naked till he died while "checking his documents" by security forces at the hospital. His body was kept there but finally delivered to his home when his family paid a huge amount of money and under strict conditions and agreements.

New Names: Mohsen Moradi, Hassan Kazemini, Abbas Disnad

On his list Saeed Valadbaygi is giving some new names of victims, for the moment I cannot find other sources:
Mohsen Moradi (unknown location and date of death)
Hassan Kazemini (19 years old Tehran)
On "iranrevolution.wordpress.com" there are other entries:
Abbas Disnad (very scarce information, except that he is mentioned between the martyrs in a commemoration invitation and his grave should be located in the same lot as Neda Agha Soltan's)

UPDATE: there were rumors about a 12 years old boy, killed during the commemoration of Neda and other martyrs 40 days after their death, anyway it seems that it is an older case and it is not possible to verify that he is actually one of the martyrs.
Please post me any sources if you find anything. Thank you.

The number of the killed could be even around 365

Rooz Online, today, August 3, in English,

A few days after the closure of the Kahrizak detention facility for “sub-standard” conditions, speculations continue about the closure of this facility. Everyday, new dimensions are revealed about the secret conditions of this horrific facility, where many individuals arrested after protesting the election results were beaten and tortured to death.

In this connection, a senior advisor to Mir-Hossein Mousavi, Alireza Beheshti, said yesterday in an interview with the official website of the minority faction in the Majlis that the number and fate of those detained in Kahrizak remain unknown. Beheshti said, “Based on some information that we have received (and still remain unsure about their reliability), a large number of individuals held at the Kahrizak facility were transported to Isfahan two days prior to the facility’s closure.”

Noting that his source of information is “remarks by the families of detainees,” Ayatollah Beheshti’s son commented on the number of recent detainees: “About 1700 names have been gathered, but that does not certainly include everyone; nor do we know how many of those who are detained are alive.”

Also announcing that there are “no exact statistics” of the number of those killed during protests and while in detention, Behesthi said, “I heard the number 365, but if we announce a figure now that is higher than the actual number, we would be accused of waging psychological warfare.”

Mir-Hossein Mousavi’s senior advisor said, “We have information that some of the people who were previously arrested as thugs and violent criminals are now used to guard the detainees.”

Alireza Beheshti also said about those who carry out interrogations are various jails such as the Kahrizak facility, “Other than thugs, some of them belong to various government institutions. Some belong to the Basij. Some are plain-clothed officers that cannot be counted as members of the Basij. Some belong to the Passdaran Revolutionary Guards Corps’ intelligence unit.”

Khatami’s Reaction

Two days before the remarks of Mir-Hossein Mousavi’s special representative at the joint reformist committee to investigate detainee conditions, former Iranian president Seyyed Mohammad Khatami blasted the government and reacted to the Kahrizak facility’s closure.

The reformist former president blasted government authorities’ statements regarding the closure of the Kahrizak facility due to sub-standard conditions, asking, “What does sub-standard mean? Does it mean, for instance, that its air ventilations did not work, or that the washrooms were dirty? No! Crimes have been committed; lives have been lost, and behaviors have been conducted against dear men, women and the youth. If such things transpire at foreign prisons, everyone would be enraged. These issues must be addressed today.”

Seyyed Mohammad Khatami also demanded legal action against those who arrested, tortured and murdered the detainees, noting, “The perpetrators of such behaviors and actions must legally tried, and the rights and reputations that have been violated must be restored.”
